The Storefront Preferences section in Orbit allows you to manage your homepage SEO, set a fallback social sharing image, restrict access to your store with a password, enable spam protection, and control the “Powered by Orbit” badge.

From here you can control how your homepage appears in search results, how your store looks when it is shared on social media, and who can access your store while you work on it.

Accessing Storefront Preferences

To access Storefront Preferences:

  • From the left-hand menu, go to Storefront.

  • Select Preferences.

The Preferences page will open, showing your storefront settings grouped into sections.

Homepage SEO

The Homepage SEO section sets the default title and meta description for your homepage in search engine results. There are two fields:

  • Meta title — the title shown for your homepage in search results, up to 70 characters.

  • Meta description — a short summary of your store shown beneath the title in search results, up to 160 characters.

A live character count is displayed below each field to help you stay within the recommended limits.

Social sharing image

The social sharing image is the default image shown when your store is shared on social media. It is used as a fallback when a page does not have its own featured image. For best results, use an image sized 1200 x 628 pixels.

To set a social sharing image, click Add image and choose an image from your media library, or upload a new one. Once an image is set, you can:

  • Click Change image to replace it with a different image.

  • Click Remove to clear the image.

Password protection

Password protection lets you restrict access to your online store with a password. Visitors will need to enter the password before they can browse your store, which is useful while you are still building or making changes.

To turn on password protection:

  1. Tick Enable password protection.

  2. Enter a Password for visitors. This is not the same as your admin login password.

  3. Enter a Message for visitors to explain why the store is protected, for example letting them know the store is coming soon.

Spam protection

Spam protection enables a captcha on your forms to help prevent spam and abuse on contact forms, comments, and account pages. Tick Enable spam protection to turn it on.

Powered by Orbit

The “Powered by Orbit” setting controls whether a small “Powered by Orbit” line is shown in the footer of every storefront page. This is enabled by default. Use the Show badge in footer toggle to turn it on or off.

Saving your changes

When you have finished making changes, click Save at the bottom of the page to apply them. The Save button stays disabled until you make a change, so you can always tell whether there are unsaved changes to apply.

Why Storefront Preferences are important

Storefront Preferences give you control over how your store is found, shared, and accessed. Clear homepage SEO and a consistent social sharing image help your store make a strong first impression, while password protection lets you keep the store private until you are ready to launch.

By using Storefront Preferences, you can:

  • Improve how your homepage appears in search engine results

  • Control the image shown when your store is shared on social media

  • Restrict access to your store with a password and message

  • Reduce spam on your forms with captcha protection

  • Choose whether the “Powered by Orbit” badge appears in your footer
