The Cookie Consent section in Orbit allows you to configure the cookie consent banner shown to your storefront visitors. It is required for UK and EU compliance when you run analytics or marketing scripts on your store.

From here you can set the banner layout, theme colours, and copy, organise the cookie categories and the services within them, preview how the banner will look, and enable it on your storefront.

Accessing Cookie Consent

To access Cookie Consent:

  • From the left-hand menu, go to Storefront.

  • Select Cookie Consent.

The Cookie Consent page will open, showing the configuration tabs.

Cookie Consent overview

The Cookie Consent page is organised into three tabs:

  • Banner — set the layout, theme colours, copy, and policy link for the banner.

  • Categories & services — manage the cookie categories and list the services in each one.

  • Preview — see how the banner will appear to visitors before you publish.

The Banner tab

The Banner tab controls how the consent banner looks and reads. It is split into several sections.

The Status section shows whether the banner is currently enabled. This is read-only here, as the enable toggle is grouped with the other site-wide compliance switches on Storefront > Preferences.

Use the Layout section to choose where the banner appears on the storefront. You can pick from:

  • Bar — bottom of page

  • Bar — top of page

  • Centered modal

  • Corner card — bottom left

  • Corner card — bottom right

The Theme section sets the banner colours so it blends with your store. It defaults to your brand colours, so you only need to override it if the banner does not sit well against your storefront. You can set:

  • Background — the banner background colour.

  • Text — the colour of the banner text.

  • Accent (button) — the colour of the Accept and Reject buttons.

  • Accent text — the colour of the text on those buttons.

  • Border — the colour of the banner border.

  • Corner radius (px) — how rounded the banner corners are.

The Copy section sets the wording visitors see. You can edit the Title, Body, and the button labels for Accept all, Reject all, Manage preferences, and Save preferences. You can also set the Policy link label and the Cookie policy URL that the link points to. Keep the Reject and Accept wording neutral and equal, as the UK ICO requires the two options to carry equal weight.

The Footer link section lets you show a Cookie preferences link in your storefront footer. We recommend leaving this on, as UK PECR requires withdrawing consent to be as easy as giving it.

The Categories & services tab

The Categories & services tab is where you organise the types of cookies your store uses and the services within each category. Visitors use these categories to choose what they consent to.

By default there are four categories:

  • Strictly necessary — required for the site to function, covering core features such as security, cart, and checkout. This category is locked on and cannot be turned off by visitors.

  • Functional — enables enhanced features such as language preferences, recently viewed products, and live chat.

  • Analytics — helps you understand how visitors use your site so you can improve it.

  • Marketing — used to deliver personalised ads and measure their performance.

For each category you can edit the Label and Description. Within a category, use Add service to list the individual services that set cookies, giving each a Name, Provider, and Description. If a category has no services listed, visitors will see only the category description.

You can also add your own categories with Add category, and remove any category you have added. The Strictly necessary category is locked and cannot be removed.

The Policy version at the top of the tab lets you force visitors to re-consent after material changes. Use Bump version to increase it, which invalidates existing choices so visitors are prompted again the next time they visit. Remember to save to publish the new version.

The Preview tab

The Preview tab shows a static render of how the banner will appear on your storefront, using the layout, theme, and copy you have set. Bar layouts pin to the top or bottom of the page, the modal floats in the centre, and corner cards sit in a corner. Use the preview to check your wording, colours, and the equal-weight Accept and Reject buttons before you go live.

Enabling the banner

The enable toggle for the cookie consent banner is not on this page. It is grouped with the other site-wide compliance switches on Storefront > Preferences, so it sits alongside your other store-wide settings. Turn it on there once you are happy with how the banner is configured.

Saving your changes

When you have finished configuring the banner, click Save at the top of the page to apply your changes. The Save button becomes available only when there are changes to save.

Why Cookie Consent is important

A cookie consent banner is a legal requirement in the UK and EU whenever you run analytics or marketing scripts that are not strictly necessary. Configuring it properly helps you stay compliant while giving visitors clear, fair control over their data.

By using the Cookie Consent section, you can:

  • Show a compliant consent banner before non-essential cookies are set

  • Match the banner to your store with custom layout, colours, and copy

  • Group cookies into clear categories and list the services in each

  • Let visitors review and change their preferences at any time

  • Re-prompt visitors for consent after material changes to your policy
