Age Verification adds a blocking prompt to your storefront: visitors must confirm their age before they can browse. It is designed for merchants of age-restricted goods such as alcohol, vapes, knives and fireworks. Search engines and link previews are unaffected, so your SEO is safe.

Turning it on

  1. Switch on Enable age verification.

  2. Select Save. The prompt starts appearing for new visitors immediately.

Behaviour

  1. Minimum age — the age visitors must meet, for example 18 or 21.

  2. Verification method — how visitors prove their age (see below).

  3. Remember for (days) — how long a passed visitor is remembered on the same device. Visitors are not asked again until this period expires or you raise the minimum age.

Verification methods

  • Confirm button — visitors simply confirm they are old enough. The lightest-touch option.

  • Date of birth entry — visitors enter their date of birth and the store calculates their age. A stronger check for stricter jurisdictions.

Copy

Customise every piece of text visitors see:

  1. Title — the prompt heading, for example “Are you {age} or older?”

  2. Message — the explanation shown under the title.

Use {age} anywhere in the text to insert your minimum age automatically — change the minimum age later and your copy stays correct. You can also set the Confirm button and Reject button labels.

Tips

  • Choose Date of birth entry if your local regulations require more than a self-declaration.

  • Set Remember for (days) high enough that returning customers are not annoyed, but low enough to satisfy your compliance obligations.
