Creating category banners

A category banner is a promotional tile that sits among the product cards on your category pages, such as a sale message or a free delivery offer. You create a banner under Storefront, then Templates, design it in the page builder, then choose which categories it shows on and when.

Considerations

• A banner appears inside the product grid on a category page. The grid's Show banner slot setting is on by default.
• A banner shows nothing until it is Published and aimed at one or more categories.
• Only one banner shows in a grid. When several match the same category page, Orbit picks one. See the rules under Which banner shows.
• Live dates are optional. Leave a date blank for no start or end limit.
• The banner title is for your own reference. Customers never see it.

Create a banner

1. From your Orbit dashboard, go to Storefront, then Templates.
2. Click Create template.
3. Enter a Name, for example Summer sale.
4. Under Type, choose Banner.
5. Click Create Template. The message Template created appears. The banner is listed as a Draft under the Banner tab.

Design the banner

1. On the Banner tab, hover over the banner's row and click Edit design. The page builder opens.
2. The canvas starts with a heading, a short line of text and a button on a dark background. Change any of it, or swap in an image.
3. Next to Preview at above the canvas, click 1 column or 2 columns to see the banner one or two product cards wide. The real width is set on the product grid.
4. Click Save.
5. Click Publish. The Publish Banner box opens.
6. Under Where it shows, choose All category pages or Specific categories. For specific categories, pick each one under Categories.
7. Click the button at the bottom of the box. It reads Save & Publish or Publish, depending on what has changed. The banner is live on the categories you chose.

Choose where and when the banner shows

Targeting, status, live dates and priority live on the banner's settings page.

1. Go to Storefront, then Templates, and click the Banner tab.
2. Hover over the banner's row and click Settings. The settings page opens with Targeting and schedule in the left-hand list.
3. Under Show on, choose All category pages or Specific categories. For specific categories, click Categories and pick each one.
4. Under Status, choose Draft, Published or Archived. Only a published banner can show.
5. Under Live dates, set Live from and Live until if the banner should run for a set time. Live until must be after Live from.
6. Under Priority, type a number. When more than one banner matches a category page, the highest priority wins.
7. Click Save. The message Banner saved appears.

Design in page builder at the top of the page takes you back to the builder.

Which banner shows

Orbit picks one published banner for the grid:

• A banner outside its live dates is skipped.
• A banner aimed at that category beats a banner set to All category pages.
• Among the rest, the highest Priority wins. If two share a priority, the one updated most recently wins.

Check the banner slot in your product grid

The slot is on by default. These settings move it or make it wider.

1. Go to Storefront, then Templates, and click the Categories tab.
2. Hover over your category template and click Edit design.
3. Click the product grid on the canvas. On the Content tab of the settings panel, open Promo banner.
4. Check Show banner slot reads Enabled. Set Position to the cell the banner takes, counting from 1, and Span to 1 column or 2 columns.
5. The box underneath names the banner that will show for the category you are previewing, with links to Edit design, Targeting and schedule and All banners.
6. Click Save, then Publish.

The Banners page

Every banner is also listed on the Banners page, with targeting, dates and priority in one table. To open it, click the back arrow at the top of a banner's settings page, or click All banners in the grid's Promo banner settings.

Each row shows:

• Title: the banner's name.
• Shows on: All categories, the categories you picked, or No categories selected.
• Status: Published, Draft or Archived.
• Live dates: Always live, or the dates you set.
• Priority: the number you set.
• Updated: when the banner last changed.

Under Actions, each row has three buttons: Design in page builder, Edit settings and Duplicate. Duplicate makes a copy of the banner and shows the message Banner duplicated.

To work on several banners at once, tick them. A bar replaces the column headers with Set as published, Set as draft and a ... menu that holds Delete. A deleted banner moves to the trash.

You can also click Create banner here, enter a Title and click Create banner. The new banner is saved as a draft.
