The Popups section in Orbit allows you to create and manage promotional overlays that are shown to visitors on your storefront, such as newsletter signups, welcome offers, exit-intent discounts, and back-in-stock alerts.

Popups are a useful way to capture email addresses, promote offers, and recover visitors who are about to leave, all without changing the rest of your storefront.

Accessing Popups

To access Popups:

  • From the left-hand menu, go to Storefront.

  • Select Popups.

The Popups page will open, showing all of the popups in your store.

Popups overview

The Popups page lists every popup in a table. Each row shows the following columns:

  • Template Name — the internal name of the popup, for example Newsletter Signup, Welcome Offer, Exit-Intent Discount, or Back in Stock Alert.

  • Type — the kind of item, which is always popup on this page.

  • Handle — the unique reference used to identify the popup, for example /newsletter-signup.

  • Visibility — the current status of the popup: Published, Draft, or Archived.

  • Updated — when the popup was last changed.

  • Actions — quick actions for previewing, editing, and managing the popup.

Understanding popup statuses

The Visibility column tells you whether a popup is live:

  • Published — the popup is active and can be shown to visitors on your storefront.

  • Draft — the popup is being worked on and will not appear on your storefront.

  • Archived — the popup has been retired and is no longer shown, but is kept for reference.

Creating a popup

To create a new popup:

  1. Click Create popup.

  2. Enter a Title for the popup. This title is for internal reference only and will not be shown to customers.

  3. Click Create Popup to save it as a draft.

Once created, the popup opens in the builder, where you can design its content and configure how it behaves.

Configuring a popup

When editing a popup, you can control when and where it appears, as well as how often:

  • Trigger — choose what causes the popup to appear, such as a time delay, the visitor reaching a certain scroll percentage, or exit intent (when the visitor moves their mouse towards the browser's close or back button on desktop).

  • Page targeting — choose which pages the popup is shown on: all pages, the homepage only, or specific pages.

  • Frequency — choose how often a visitor sees the popup: every page visit, once per session, once per day, or once ever.

You can also enable or disable the popup, so that it only goes live once you are ready.

Editing a popup

To edit a popup, click its row in the table, or use the edit action. You can update the title and adjust the trigger, targeting, and frequency settings at any time. Use the builder to change the popup's content and appearance.

Duplicating a popup

If you want to base a new popup on an existing one, duplicate it from the Actions for that row. This creates a copy as a draft, which you can rename and adjust without affecting the original.

Deleting a popup

To remove a popup, select it and choose to delete it. Deleted popups are moved to trash and can be restored later, or permanently removed if you no longer need them. Be careful when deleting popups, as permanently removing them cannot be undone.

Publishing a popup

When a popup is ready, set its visibility to Published to make it active on your storefront. To take a popup down without deleting it, set it back to Draft, or archive it to retire it while keeping it for reference.

Why popups are important

Popups help you turn storefront visitors into subscribers and customers by showing the right message at the right moment. By using the Popups section, you can:

  • Capture email addresses with newsletter signups

  • Promote welcome offers and discounts to new visitors

  • Recover visitors who are about to leave with exit-intent offers

  • Let customers know when items are back in stock

  • Control exactly when, where, and how often each popup appears

The Popups section gives you a single place to create promotional overlays and manage how they are shown to your visitors.
