Using the notification centre

Read the bell, open the full notifications list, filter by Orders, Payments, Returns and more, mark notifications as read and delete the ones you have dealt with.

The bell in the header of your Orbit dashboard collects what has happened in your store: new orders, payments, return requests, supplier changes and live chat messages. The notification centre is the full list behind the bell. From there you can filter by area, mark notifications as read and delete the ones you have dealt with.

Considerations

  • Read and unread are personal. Each team member has their own unread count, and Mark all as read only clears yours.
  • Deleting removes a notification for everyone on the store. Only the store owner and admins can delete.
  • Notifications belong to the store you are working in. Switch store and the bell shows that store's list.
  • Notifications are kept for 90 days, then removed on their own.
  • You cannot choose which notifications appear in the bell. Who receives email and text alerts is a separate setting. See Setting up email and SMS notifications.

Check the bell

  1. Look at the bell in the header. A red badge shows how many notifications you have not read. It reads 99+ past 99.
  2. Click the bell. A panel headed Notifications lists your ten most recent notifications. Unread ones are in bold with a blue dot.
  3. Click a notification to open the record it is about, such as the order or the return. It is marked as read at the same time.
  4. Click Mark all read to clear the badge without opening anything.
  5. Click View all notifications to open the notification centre.

While your dashboard is open, a new notification also appears as a message in the corner of the screen, with its title and a short description.

Open the notification centre

  1. Click the bell, then View all notifications. The Notifications page opens. Under the title it says how many you have not read, for example 3 unread notifications.
  2. Click a tab to show one area: All, Orders, Payments, Returns, Inventory, Suppliers, Live Chat or System.
  3. Click Unread or Read, to the right of the tabs, to narrow the list. All puts both back.
  4. The page shows 20 notifications at a time. Use Previous and Next at the bottom to move through them. The line between them reads, for example, Page 1 of 3 (48 total).

An empty tab reads No notifications, or for one area, No orders notifications. With Unread selected it reads You're all caught up!

What lands in each tab

  • Orders: a new order, and a payment received against an order.
  • Payments: a payment that failed, and a request from Orbit Payments for more details before your payouts can continue.
  • Returns: a return requested by a customer, then approved and completed.
  • Inventory: stock transfers between your locations.
  • Suppliers: new products from a connected supplier, product updates, and a product the supplier has retired. Updates are rolled into one notification until you read it.
  • Live Chat: a customer has sent a message in Live Chat.
  • System: Nebula Pulse insights such as a drop in sales, the result of a task you gave Nebula, and a customer data export that is ready.

Purchase order updates from suppliers and task reminders from the CRM plugin have no tab of their own. They show under All.

Note: There is no low stock notification. To see items running low, go to Products, then Inventory, and click Low stock ≤ 10. See Checking and correcting stock levels.

Mark notifications as read

  1. Click a notification. It is marked as read and the record it is about opens.
  2. To mark several without opening them, tick the box beside each one. The bar above the list changes from Select all to a count, such as 3 selected.
  3. Click Mark selected read at the top right.
  4. To clear everything, click Mark all as read. The button only shows while you have unread notifications and nothing ticked. The message All notifications marked as read appears.

Delete notifications

  1. Tick the notifications you want to remove. Tick Select all to take the whole page.
  2. Click the red Delete button at the top right. It shows the count, for example Delete (3).
  3. The message Notifications deleted appears and the list refreshes.

Warning: Deleting removes the notification for everyone on your store, and there is no undo. If you only want it out of your way, mark it as read instead.
