Issuing a gift card in Orbit creates a store-credit card with a unique code that your customer can redeem at checkout. You set the amount, optionally add recipient details and an expiration date, and Orbit generates the code for you.

Once issued, the gift card is created as Active with a generated code and appears in your Gift Cards list, ready to be shared with a customer.

Issuing a gift card

To issue a gift card:

  • From the left-hand menu, go to Gift Cards.

  • Click Issue gift card.

The Issue gift card form will open, organised into three sections: Amount, Recipient, and Expiration.

Setting the amount

In the Amount section, enter the value of the gift card in the Amount field. This is the only required field, and it sets the starting balance the customer can spend.

The amount is shown in your store currency, and it must be greater than zero.

Adding recipient details

The Recipient section is optional. Use it to record who the gift card is for and to add a short note:

  • Email — the email address of the person the gift card is intended for.

  • Name — the recipient’s name.

  • Personal message — a short message to accompany the gift card.

You can leave these fields empty if you simply want to generate a gift card code to share manually.

Setting an expiration date

The Expiration section is also optional. Use the Expiration date field to choose the date on which the gift card stops being valid.

Leave this field empty if you want the gift card to have no expiry, so the customer can redeem it at any time.

Issuing the card

When you are happy with the details, click Issue gift card to create it.

Orbit generates a unique code for the card and sets its status to Active. You are returned to the Gift Cards list, where the new card appears with its code, initial value, current balance, and any recipient and expiry details you entered.

Why issuing gift cards is useful

Gift cards give your customers a flexible way to pay and a simple way to gift store credit to others. Each card holds a balance that can be redeemed against orders at checkout, and the balance updates automatically as it is used.

By issuing gift cards, you can:

  • Offer store credit that customers can redeem at checkout

  • Send a gift card to a recipient with a personal message

  • Control how long a card stays valid, or let it never expire

  • Track each card’s balance and status from the Gift Cards list
