£20 off orders over £150 — fixed-amount codes drive bigger baskets better than percentages do.
“£20 off” reads as money in the customer's pocket — and with a minimum-spend requirement it quietly raises your average order value.

Creating one
Discounts → Create discount, and switch the value type to Fixed amount.
Set the title and code as usual, then the amount off in pounds.
The important partner: minimum purchase
Under Conditions → Requirements, set the minimum purchase amount the discount needs — “£20 off orders over £150” is the classic for a reason:
The customer spends more to unlock it (basket-building behaviour).
Your effective discount rate stays predictable — £20 off £150 is 13%, every time.
Percentage vs fixed, quickly
Percentage scales with the basket — fine for storewide sales, risky on big-ticket items without a cap.
Fixed amount is predictable for you and tangible for the customer — best paired with a threshold just above your current average order.
Tips
Set the threshold 15–25% above your average order value (see your analytics) — close enough to reach, far enough to matter.
