The Page Templates section in Orbit allows you to manage the reusable layouts behind your storefront pages, including product listings, categories, and content pages such as About Us and Contact. From here you can create, preview, duplicate, and edit templates, control whether each one is published, and choose which template is used by default.

A page template is a reusable layout that defines how a type of storefront page looks and is structured. Rather than building every page from scratch, you create a template once and reuse it, keeping your storefront consistent and quicker to maintain.

Accessing Page Templates

To access Page Templates:

  • From the left-hand menu, go to Storefront.

  • Select Page Templates.

The Page Templates page will open, showing a list of all your templates.

The templates list

Each template is shown as a row in the table. The list includes the following columns:

  • Template Name — the name of the template, such as Home, About Us, or Contact.

  • Type — the kind of page the template applies to, for example Page.

  • Handle — the URL path the template is published to, such as /about-us or /contact. The default template shows as Default.

  • Visibility — whether the template is Published, a Draft, or Archived.

  • Primary — a toggle that sets the template as the primary one for its type.

  • Updated — when the template was last changed.

  • Actions — the controls to preview, duplicate, or edit the template.

Visibility

The Visibility column shows whether each template is live on your storefront:

  • Published — the template is live and in use on your storefront.

  • Draft — the template is being worked on and is not yet live.

  • Archived — the template has been retired and is no longer in use, but is kept for reference.

The Primary template

Each page type can have one primary template, set using the Primary toggle. The primary template is the default layout used for that type of page, so when more than one template exists you can decide which one your storefront uses by default. In the example above, the Home template is set as Primary.

Creating a template

To create a new template:

  1. Click Create template at the top of the page.

  2. Give the template a name and set its handle, which is the URL path it will be published to.

  3. Build the layout for the page.

  4. Set the visibility to Draft while you work, then to Published when the template is ready to go live.

  5. Save the template.

Previewing, duplicating, and editing

Each row has its own actions in the Actions column:

  • Preview — open the template to see how it will appear on your storefront before publishing.

  • Duplicate — create a copy of the template as a starting point for a new one, which is useful when you want a similar layout without building it again.

  • Edit — open the template to change its layout, name, handle, or visibility.

Filtering and searching

Use Add Filter to narrow down your templates, for example by Page Status to show only published, draft, or archived templates. Applied filters appear beneath the toolbar, and you can use Clear all to reset them. Use the Search field to find a template by name or handle.

Why page templates are important

Page templates keep your storefront consistent and save time, because a layout you build once can be reused and updated in a single place. By using the Page Templates section, you can:

  • Keep your storefront pages looking consistent

  • Reuse layouts instead of building each page from scratch

  • Control which templates are live with Published, Draft, and Archived visibility

  • Set the primary template used by default for each page type

  • Preview, duplicate, and edit templates with ease
