Setting up a Snapchat catalogue feed
Install the Snapchat Catalog Feed plugin, build a feed for Dynamic Product Ads, and connect the Snap Pixel and Conversions API so purchases report back to Snapchat.
The Snapchat Catalog Feed plugin gives Snapchat your product catalogue for Dynamic Product Ads. It also connects the Snap Pixel and the Conversions API, which report views and purchases back to Snapchat so your ads can be measured and retargeted.
Considerations
- Snapchat's audience is young and buys on impulse. Fashion, beauty, gifts and photogenic products under about £60 tend to do well. Considered purchases, such as sofas, tend not to.
- Dynamic Product Ads need both halves live: the feed tells Snapchat what you sell, and the Conversions API tells it what people did. One without the other will not retarget properly.
Install the plugin
- From your Orbit dashboard, go to Plugins.
- Under Explore Plugins, find Snapchat Catalog Feed and click Install.
- Check the details page, then click Install & Authorize. The plugin appears under My Plugins.
- Click Open to go to the plugin. Its page is called Snapchat Catalog Feeds.
Create a feed
- On the Snapchat Catalog Feeds page, click Create Feed.
- Give the feed a name, then choose the country and currency it is for.
- Under Schedule, turn the schedule on so the feed rebuilds itself on a regular interval.
- Under Product Filtering, choose Active only to send only live products, or All statuses to send everything.
- Click Save.
Generate the feed and copy the URL
- Open the feed from the list.
- Click Generate Now. Orbit builds the feed file and adds a run to Generation History.
- Check Validation Results and fix anything under Issues Found.
- Under Feed URL, click the copy icon to copy the address.
Add the catalogue in Snapchat Ads Manager
- Sign in to Snapchat Ads Manager and go to Catalogs.
- Create a catalogue.
- Add the feed URL from Orbit as a scheduled data source.
Connect the Snap Pixel and the Conversions API
- On the plugin page, find the Snap Pixel section.
- Enter your Pixel ID from Snapchat and save. The section shows Active on storefront once the pixel is live.
- Find the Conversions API section.
- Enter the same Pixel ID and the Conversions API token from Snapchat Ads Manager, then save.
- Place a test order on your storefront. It appears under Recent Events with the event type, the order and the time.
Note: The Pixel ID in the Conversions API section must match the one in the Snap Pixel section. If they differ, Snapchat cannot join the two sets of events.
