The Media Library in Orbit is where you can upload, manage, review, and reuse images across your store. This is especially useful for product images, blog images, banners, marketing assets, and any other media files used throughout your website.

Accessing the Media Library

To access the Media Library:

  1. From the left-hand menu, go to Content.

  2. Click Media Library.

You will then see a list of files currently uploaded to your store.

Media Library overview

The Media Library displays your uploaded files in a table format. Each row represents one file.

The table includes the following information:

  • File name — The name of the uploaded file.

  • Alt Text — Alternative text used for accessibility and search engines.

  • Date added — The date and time the file was uploaded.

  • Size — The size of the file.

  • References — Shows where the file is currently being used, such as products or product variants.

Editing the file name

When viewing a file, you can update the File Name field.

This is useful if you want to make file names clearer, more organised, or easier to search for later.

Adding alt text

The Alt Text field is used to describe the image for accessibility and search engines.

Alt text is important because it helps screen readers explain images to users who may not be able to see them. It can also help search engines better understand the content of your images.

Copying the file URL

Each uploaded file has a direct File URL.

To copy the file URL:

  1. Open the file from the Media Library.

  2. Click the copy icon next to the File URL, or use the Copy URL button below the image preview.

  3. You can then paste this URL wherever the image link is needed.

Downloading a file

To download a file:

  1. Open the file from the Media Library.

  2. Click Download below the image preview.

  3. This will download the selected file to your device.

Understanding references

The References column shows where a file is currently being used.

For example, a file may show references such as:

  • 1 Product

  • 1 product_variant

This means the image is currently attached to a product and a product variant.

This is useful before deleting files, as it helps you understand whether a file is still being used elsewhere in your store.

Deleting files

To delete files:

  1. Select the file or files using the checkbox beside each file.

  2. Click Delete files.

Before deleting a file, always check the References column to make sure the file is not being used by an active product, product variant, blog post, or storefront section.

Deleting a file that is still in use may remove it from the areas where it appears.

Why Media Library is important?

The Media Library keeps all your store images in one central place. Instead of uploading the same file multiple times across different areas of the platform, you can manage your assets from one location and reuse them where needed.
