The Pricing rules section in Orbit allows you to set how the selling price of a connected supplier's products is calculated. You add a markup percentage on top of the supplier's cost price, with the option to override it for specific brands.

Pricing rules are found on a supplier connection page, alongside the supplier's sync settings.

How selling prices are calculated

For every product imported from this supplier, your selling price is worked out from the supplier's cost price plus a markup percentage. The cost price comes from the supplier; the markup is the percentage you choose to add on top.

For example, if a product has a cost price of £100 and your markup is 25%, the product will sell at £125 (the £100 cost price plus 25% on top).

Blanket markup

The blanket markup applies to every product imported from this supplier. Enter the percentage you want to add on top of the cost price in the Blanket markup field. This single rule covers your whole import from the supplier, so it is the quickest way to set a consistent margin across the catalogue.

Brand overrides

Brand overrides let you set a different markup for specific brands. When a brand override is in place, it replaces the blanket markup for every product in that brand, while all other products continue to use the blanket markup.

This is useful when certain brands need a higher or lower margin than the rest of the supplier's range. For example, you might apply a 25% blanket markup across the supplier, but set a 40% markup for a premium brand and a 15% markup for a value brand.

If you have not added any brand overrides, the blanket markup applies to every product. If the supplier has not yet published any brands, there will be no brands available to override.

Adding a brand override

To add a brand override:

  1. In the Brand overrides area, click Add brand rule.

  2. Choose the brand you want the rule to apply to.

  3. Enter the markup percentage for that brand.

  4. Repeat for any other brands that need their own markup.

Each brand can have only one override, and a brand already used in another rule cannot be selected again. To remove an override, delete the brand rule; that brand's products will then return to the blanket markup.

Saving your rules

When you change the blanket markup or any brand override, an unsaved changes note appears. Click Save changes to apply your pricing rules. To discard your edits and return to the last saved values, click Reset.

Why pricing rules are important

Pricing rules give you control over your margins without having to set a price on each product by hand. The blanket markup keeps pricing consistent across the supplier, while brand overrides let you fine-tune the margin where it matters. Because prices are calculated from the supplier's cost price, your selling prices stay correct even when the supplier's cost prices change.
